Our culture is in crisis over gender and identity—and families are on the front lines. This workshop will explore the roots of today’s gender confusion, its impact on children and the church, and how parents can respond with both truth and grace. We’ll introduce a Biblical paradigm of sex and gender and a Christlike way of addressing people who are struggling. We’ll also highlight some practical worldview teaching and best practices to help prevent confusion in the first place. Learn how to help the next generation navigate cultural lies with confidence in who God made them to be. This session utilizes some of the research of Dr. John Salvensen as presented in this paper (a great resource).
Meet the Presenter: Jeremy Mikkelsen
Jeremy Mikkelsen (AA, Ethnos360 Bible Institute; BS, Oregon State University; MA, Chafer Theological Seminary) has pastored in the urban Pacific Northwest for the past decade and has seen firsthand the impact of confusion about gender and identity in both the church and the public school system. He and Carri have three teenagers and a heart for equipping parents to engage the next generation with biblical clarity and compassion. Jeremy now teaches at conferences and mentors pastors as part of his ministry with the Free Grace Alliance.
There’s an enemy that lurks just below the surface of our lives. Its influence can be debilitating and even deadly. It may be Evil’s primary tool for rendering us ineffective and defeated. And no one is immune to its whispers. But this enemy can be conquered in ways we might least expect. This enemy is the destructive emotion of shame.

Life moves through seasons—and with each one, our roles, responsibilities, and sense of purpose often shift. Whether it’s the transition into marriage, motherhood, ministry, or an empty nest, these changes can leave us wondering who we are apart from what we do. This workshop explores how God’s grace anchors our identity when everything else feels in motion. Through biblical insight and personal reflection, you’ll rediscover the peace that comes from resting in who you are in Christ—an identity that doesn’t fade when roles change.
Meet the Presenter: Carri Mikkelsen
Carri Mikkelsen (AA, Ethnos360 Bible Institute; BS, Oregon State University; MA, Calvary University) has served in ministry alongside her husband Jeremy for over twenty years, including missions in South America and pastoral ministry in the Pacific Northwest. As a wife, mother of three, writer, and Biblical counselor, Carri brings warmth and authenticity to her teaching. Her passion is helping women embrace grace and live securely in their identity in Christ through every season of life.
Life can come hard and fast through tragic events, potentially leading us to ask many “Why?” questions. But, James 1:2 tells us to "consider it all joy" when we encounter various trials. So, how might we prepare for an unexpected Life Interrupted event, so that we can allow and even invite God to be part of our healing process?
Meet the Presenter: Sam Newton
Sam Newton came to know Christ as a teen. He has a BS in Natural Gas Engineering (1980) and an MBA/Finance (2001), with 40+ years of experience in the oil & gas industry in various leadership and consulting roles. What kind of person does God want you to be? What does it look like to walk in the Spirit, and be filled with the Spirit? And how does this play out in our lives as disciples, and those we are discipling? In this breakout, we’ll explore the four kinds of people described in 1 Corinthians 2:6-3:4, and consider what living the spiritual life really means.
